Favorite Holiday?

Post by Emily Spencer »

I love holidays! Who doesn’t, right?!! Granted, some matter more than others. For instance, my family makes a particularly big deal over Saint Patrick’s Day. What about you? What are some of your favorite holidays and what makes them special to you?

Christmas has always been a favorite of mine. We deck up our house in lights, and put up the tree, as well as bake cookies. The list of fun things could go on and on honestly. But I just love how cheerful it is also. Plus, we can't forget the presents. :D Those are great also.

Up through my mid twenties it was always a toss-up between Halloween for fun with friends or Thanksgiving for food and family (okay, and Valentine’s Day because I’ve always been a sucker for romance, whether in a relationship or not). These days that would lean much more toward Thanksgiving, though our big family gatherings have become about once a year where my relatives get together now mostly around the 4th of July on a lake out to camp. Thus making that one of my more preferred holidays as I don’t celebrate Halloween much anymore (though when we can go trick or treating with our nieces and nephews we love it!) and Thanksgiving is much more low key for us now. But give me anything with food, friends, family, and fun and I am DOWN. TO. CLOWN!! And of course Christmas is just so magical. This past was one of my all time favorite memories, especially as an adult.

My favourite holidays are Thanksgiving and Christmas because they are the two times of the year that my family always get together. It can be hard to find time to get together with my relatives when everyone is busy with their own lives. I also like them because there is guaranteed to be a lot of delicious and filling food.

I love Halloween! I get to dress up in cute or crazy costumes, free candy, bonding with friends in a group costume, free candy. It's a great holiday and almost everyone loves it. :)

My favorite holiday is Christmas. It's a fun time of year. I'm not one for loud and crowded parties, but I do like being with my family. Then doing all of our Christmas traditions and watching movies such as all of the Home Alone movies, Elf, and Christmas with the Kranks.

My favourite has always been Halloween, followed closely by Christmas. The entire later half of the year is just a cozy magical time when you grow up in Canada, it has all the gloomy spooky vibes of Halloween, and the white snowy atmosphere Christmas is intended to be spent in. :)

We don't celebrate most holidays like the rest of the world but We do love Easter since it ends up as a "long weekend"(four days of no work). I personally thing Halloween is awesome and I do love the atmosphere and lights of Christmas. We don't have things like thanksgiving or St. Patricks. We also don't actively celebrate Halloween by decoration or trick or treating. But some people still have dress up parties which is fun.

My favourite holidays are:
  • Durga Puja (7 days of pandal hopping, extraordinary food, dancing to the dhaak, wearing traditional clothes and the whole festive party vibe all over the city!)
  • Kali Puja and Diwali (2 days of pandal hopping, firecrackers and mutton.)
  • Eid (Love the Eid special biryanis.)
  • Christmas (Obviously! Because gifts, cakes, Christmas decorations all over the house, Christmas movies, Christmas carols, the Christmas playlist by Libera, and of course Michael Bublé and Mariah Carey.)
