A message from the Headmaster

Hi,

Some important info for all newbies to HOL and those of you who are a bit lost in the jungle.

HOL FORUM GUIDELINES (new accounts):

All new accounts to the HOL Forum have to be enabled by the forum administration before you can start to post. Please sign up with a valid HOL name (first name + last name + student-ID) or your account will not be enabled.

If you are not a member of HOL yet, please visit the HOL Admission Office and take the entry exam for HOL. The Admission Office opens again on January 7th, but it might take a while until your sign-up can be processed.

All accounts in the HOL Forum that are not valid (not a valid HOL name, not a member of HOL ...) will be disabled. Original names of Harry Potter characters are not allowed here, so please do not sign up as "Hermione Granger," etc.

All HOL rules are in effect here in the HOL Forum - especially the protection of your very own privacy. Posting of street addresses or telephone numbers will most likely lead to your expulsion from HOL. Also please do not post your real life name.

Thanks,

Happy New Year 2002 to you, your family and all your friends!!

Emerald Dybendahl (HOL Headmaster)

Announcing a new opportunity for students to show off their artistic talents -- design the Official HOL T-Shirt!

The guidelines for entries are:

The design must be tasteful. No foul language of any kind permitted.

Try to make it as general as possible; these shirts are for all of HOL, not just your House or your friends.

It can be just about any size you want, although please remember that it will be on the front of the shirt, and should be easily seen, although not so large that it becomes a jumbled mess.

Always keep in mind that this is to display your HOL pride. Don't create anything you wouldn't want to show off to all your friends.

You can use either a hand-drawn design or create one with computer software like Paint Shop Pro or Adobe Photoshop. There are no real rules for the type of design -- it can be as simple as "HOL" in large, funky letters or as complicated as an anime-inspired scene with several students riding books like broomsticks. The important thing is that you be creative!

Finished designs should be sent to Prof. Neverwhere. The contest ends 31st January 2002.

We made a very detailed stats page for HOL Quidditch - all positions (well, seekers with the next update), all records, best scores, most blocks, most hits, best attack and defense, ratios, bludgers, longest matches and so on... See if your team can take over one of these records in the next match?

The HOL Library is sponsoring an HOL Fan Fiction Writing contest!

There will be three categories for the contest. They are Christmas at Hogwarts, Harry Potter Fiction, and HOL Fiction. Christmas at Hogwarts must be written about a Christmas break at Hogwarts. Harry Potter Ficiton must be written were a character is Harry Potter. The Professors and other characters must match the ones in the books. Try to to keep it as close to the book as possible. The third is HOL Fiction. It must use HOL Professors and students. You may make up students, but must use Professor and Staff names. If you receive a students permission you may use students names with their permission.

There are a few rules. It must be between 2500 and 10000 words. No exceptions. If there is any preverse content you will be disqualified and lose points. There will be two rounds of judging. Preliminaries will be judged by Ayesha Nitehawk and Head Librarian James Gredbank. We will determine a winner for each category. Professor Dybendahl will then read each of the three winners and rank them.

All submissions must be entered by December 21st. Please e-mail them to jck4487@hotmail.com with the subject `WRITING CONTEST SUBMISSION' or the entry will be disqualified.

Professor Ayesha Nitehawk, proud member of House Slytherin and the Slytherin Quidditch Coach is offering HOL's newest courses on Writing Interactive RPG/Persona Fiction.

This course is designed to help fully develop your HOL persona and to interact with your fellow students. The course will be taught as an Interative RPG (I've never done something like this on such a large scale, so it should be interesting!). If you'd like to read the Introduction, link here: http://www.ssnexus.org/nitehawk/class/index.html . Send an email to Prof. Nitehawk if you want to take part in the writing class.
