House Awards are given out by the four house administrations on their own terms.

Gryffindor

Hufflepuff

Our dedicated Spirit Committee, or SC, members carefully select those individuals who show true Hufflepuff spirit in everything they do - loyalty, faithfulness, hard work, friendliness, and fairness - when nominating the following awards:

  • House Spirit Award: Given to the Hufflepuff who truly epitomizes house spirit, giving their all to their classwork and other HOL involvements, while being friendly, helpful and caring. Basically the House Spirit Award is given to a Hufflepuff who exhibits all of the qualities stated for the Order of Helga Awards and more. * Order of Helga Awards: One or two Order of Helga Awards are usually given each month, but not always.
    • Order of Helga - Hard Work: Given to a Huff who has dedicated an extraordinary amount of time and effort to one or more house or HOL-wide projects.
    • Order of Helga - Creativity: Given to a Huff who has, well, been creative. This could be through entering a contest (drawing, writing, banner-designing, poetry, HOL Idol, the list is extensive) and producing a really good submission, or creating a layout for a huff-related website, or simply having very good ideas about a current or proposed project for Huffs.
    • Order of Helga - Bravery: Given to a Huff who has endured an unpleasant or difficult situation within Hufflepuff or HOL, and has handled themselves and others involved with the dignity, loyalty, respect, fairness and faith that is characteristic of the house. Examples of this might be dealing with an extremely unpleasant situation on IRC or the forums (trolls, hags, vampires, spammers, etc, but not just the run-of-the-mill stuff), resolving a conflict between students/houses/prefects etc, or other similar situations. OR, a Huffle who has done something that scares them for the good of the house - stepping in to play seeker in an emergency, when they've never been on a broom before (it has *almost* happened!), or similar.
    • Order of Helga - Humourist: Given to a Huff who always sees the bright and funny side of things - a Huff who can make people smile and laugh.
  • Badger Cub Award: Presented in July, August and January to a new Hufflepuff who has jumped in with both feet and contributed to the house from day one, showing remarkable spirit and enthusiasm, and natural Huffleness.
  • Hungarian Horntail Award: Presented biannually, at the end of each HOL term, to the winner of the House Spirit Award from that term who the SC feels is the most outstanding Huff.
  • The Alektaia Khalikiope Memorial Award (Live your life to the fullest award): This is a very rare honour for a Hufflepuff to be presented with. Created to honour the memory of a Hufflepuff very dear to us all, who has now passed on, Taia's Award is to recognize a Hufflepuff who has contributed a lot to Hufflepuff and HOL in the face of personal difficulties in real life. Taia was a very caring, friendly, loving person, and never failed to be active, welcoming and happy despite being seriously ill.
  • Badger By Another Name Award: Given monthly to a member of Ravenclaw, Slytherin, or Gryffindor who has many traits of a Hufflepuff, and who the SC thinks should have actually been sorted into Hufflepuff.

Ravenclaw

There are three types of awards given by Ravenclaw House. They are Participation Awards, Quidditch Awards, and Character Awards.


PARTICIPATION AWARDS [POINTS]


All point awards are determined by the number of points students have accumulated per month/year.


Ravenclaw of the Year: An honour presented to the highest Ravenclaw point-earner of the school year.

Jaw Dropper: An honour presented to Ravenclaws who have earned 2000+ points during the school year.

Excelling Eagles: An honour presented to Ravenclaws who have earned 600-1999 points during the school year.

Wonderful Wingmasters: An honour presented to Ravenclaws who have earned 300-599 points during the school year.

Unsung Heroes: An honour presented to Ravenclaws who have earned 300+ points, but are not publically appreciated since they rarely seen on the boards or IRC.

Ravenclaw of the Month: An honour presented to the top Ravenclaw point earner of THAT month only. Those who have won the Ravenclaw of the Month Award may not win it a second time in the same school year.


PARTICIPATION AWARDS [OTHER]


The winners of these awards are determined by a small group of Ravenclaw Professors and Prefects.


Roost Boosters: An award presented to any Ravenclaw who kept the Roost alive during the past year by posting at least 100 times (without spamming).

Aviary Enthusiasts: An award presented to Ravenclaws or non-Ravenclaws active in the board "Below the Branches" in the Aviary, our visitor area.

Chatterbox: An award presented to Ravenclaws active on IRC in the channels #ravenclaw and #hpgalleries, waiting to pounce on someone in the wee hours of the night!


QUIDDITCH AWARDS


All Quidditch awards are awarded monthly.


Eagle's Talont: An honour presented to the Ravenclaw Quidditch player who combines great trivia knowledge with good sportsmanship.

Captain's Choice: An honour presented to the Ravenclaw Quidditch player whom the captains decide demonstrate excellent dedication, sportsmanship, and skill.


CHARACTER AWARDS [MONTHLY]


Blue Virtue: An honour presented to a Ravenclaw who exhibits friendship, kindness and excellent character, who goes out of his or her way to brighten someone's day. Decided by the Ravenclaw Head and Deputy Head of House and Prefects.

Bronze Ambition: An honour presented to a Ravenclaw who exhibits hard work, dedication and discipline. Decided by the Ravenclaw Head and Deputy Head of House and Prefects.

Hawking HOLer: An honour presented to a Ravenclaw who always finds time for HOL, despite any impediments or interferences. Decided by the Ravenclaw Head and Deputy Head of House.


CHARACTER AWARDS [ANNUAL]


Rowena's Honour: An honour presented to an exemplary Ravenclaw, who honours his or her House in its highest way. The winner of this award is truly a magnificent example for the rest of the House -- he or she is kind, respected, and accomplished. Decided by the Ravenclaw Head and Deputy Head of House.

Biggest Beak: An honour presented to the Ravenclaw always in tune with the latest news, always searching for new friends, and just generally has a beak in everyone's business (in the good way, of course)! Decided by the entire House.

Birdy Brain: An honour presented to Ravenclaws who excel in his/her HOL classes. Decided by the Professors of each HOL class.

The Bold Eagle: An honour presented to the Ravenclaw who has displayed outstanding bravery and courage several times throughout the school term. Decided by the entire House.

Ravenclaw in Awe: An honour presented to the most widely respected Ravenclaw. He or she astounds us each time, and is full of surprises. Decided by the entire House.

ROFL Ravenclaw: An honour presented to the Ravenclaw who constantly tickles our funny bones ... er, feathers! Decided by the entire House.

Wing Painter: An honour presented to the most artistically skilled Ravenclaw. Decided by the entire House.


OTHER CHARACTER AWARDS


Extraordinary Eagle: Self-explanatory -- an honour presented to truly, an extraordinary eagle who just blows our birdy brains out of the water. Awarded as deserved.

High Flying Friend: An honour presented to a special non-Ravenclaw who has levitated so high, s/he is flying with the eagles! Awarded as deserved.

Slytherin

Slytherin House has a range of different awards that students can receive over the year. Below is a quick overview of what we give out. Look out for an announcement in the Dungeons for nomination and voting dates.


MONTHLY AWARD

Sagacious Slytherin of the Month: This is awarded to the student that earns the most points for the month.


BI-MONTHLY AWARDS

Singular Slytherin Award: This is awarded to a student or professor that has shown their commitment to keeping Slytherin active and has done something good for the house.

Smug Snake Award: AKA the Most Random Slytherin, it is awarded to someone who brightens our day and furthers our quest for world domination through their wondrous reverie.

Lion/Eagle/Badger in Snakes Clothing: This award is given to a member from another house who did something particularly Slytherin-worthy or clearly just wants to be like us.


TERM AWARD

The Chosen One: This is awarded to a member of the Slytherin Quidditch Team who has shown excellent dedication and passion for the team during the term. Decided by SQT captains.


YEARLY AWARDS

Best Hatchling of the Year: This is awarded to the Slytherin first year that earnt the most points for Slytherin!

Salazar Slytherin’s Spirit Award: This is awarded to a Slytherin student who has shown amazing commitment to HOL and Slytherin throughout the entire year. They are a person who earns points, participates in contests, helps out other students and helps to keep the house active.

Dweller of the Dungeons: This is awarded is given to the student who leads the top ten list for the most Slytherin Activity Points earnt throughout the year. This person has shown remarkable participation in numerous activities in the Dungeons.

Dedicated Snake: This award is given to the remaining nine students who made the top ten list for the most SAP earnt throughout the year.


We also have a number of other yearly awards that will be presented in July 2009 for the first time! Look out for the Salazars coming to a Great Hall near you!


MISC AWARDS

Special Services to Slytherin: This is a very special award given out by the HOH and DHOH only, to a student or professor that has done something above and beyond their normal duties.
