Misbehaviour

Misbehaviour, according to Babylon, is: poor conduct, bad behavior, misconduct. Incidents of misbehaviour will cost house points. Some examples of misbehaviour are, but are not limited to:

  • Discrediting: Dictionary.com defines discrediting as the loss of or damage to one's reputation; lack or loss of trust or belief; doubt; something damaging to one's reputation or stature. Badmouthing somebody or somebodies (like entire houses), including your own, through posts, messages, PMs or similar is considered discrediting.
  • Spamming: Spam is one phenomenon that takes different forms and shapes depending on the medium (IRC, forums, etc.) but it has one characteristic everybody agrees on: it's annoying, unnecessary and a waste of bandwith.
  • Spam on IRC is the consistent use of meaningless characters, letters and words, strung together with no real purpose.
  • On the forums, spam can be classified as "Short Pointless Annoying Messages", which include useless, one-word, 'I agree' posts, posts with questions that have been answered in another thread or the HOL Wiki, or topics that have recently been discussed.
  • Replying to questions in the 'Ask a Prefect' board: Only prefects and staff may reply. We do not want to give out any false, uncertain or unconfirmed information.
  • Back-talking is rude and tasteless.

Normally, students will lose 5 points for a repeat offense (after an initial warning) and 10 points if they continue to misbehave. The maximum penalty for very extreme (and rare) cases is 100 points.
