You are correct :) And considering that the Nazgûl pushed the gate onto him and rode over it, I felt fairly safe in assuming that he did die. It's never stated, though.

Precisely. When the victory over Sauron was celebrated, Arwen's wedding to Aragorn pretty much followed suit, meaning that Elrond lost his daughter to mortality - until the end of the world, as it is. But he did smile when he watched them hug :D
