Book Bingo
With winter festivities rapidly coming to an end, what better time than to embrace the second half of our school term with a new, exciting challenge?! Part game, part literary endeavor, it's a perfect chance to earn fame and fortune (okay, just beans really)but..ahem...you will be the famous person with all the beans. And who doesn't like that?! I'm talking about our latest Book Club Challenge, namely Book Bingo.
How it works:
Instead of presenting you with a traditional book list, we’ll be handing out cards with 25 criteria relating to books. These will be laid out in a 5 by 5 grid — and it will be up to you to find books that fit these criteria. Each person who signs up in this thread will receive a different card, although there will be some overlaps in the criteria. Once you sign up, a card will be sent to you via forum PM.
In order for your book to count, you’ll need to post something around the Book Club of at least 80 words for every book that forms part of your card. Remember that information about the book’s title, author or series does not count towards this count, but should still be included for everyone else's benefit. (Read the criteria set forth in The Bookshelf Overview for the writing of your post.) This doesn't have to be just a series of reviews: you might present a new author in The Bookshelf or start a conversation about something more general you noticed in several books in Between the Pages. If someone has already started a topic about your book, author, or subject, please contribute to that rather than starting a brand new one of your own. Also, make sure the review or discussion is yours and based on your own thoughts while reading: lifting a review from Goodreads or elsewhere on the internet is categorically not allowed. Please read the respective overview posts before posting.
-Remember that a book has to be read, and the details needed in book review posts (ie author, title, genre, etc) need to be added into whatever is written in Between the Pages posts if it is to count for Book Bingo.
We’ll be offering three tiers of rewards for card completion:
Tier 1: Single row or column or diagonal completion
Image shows examples of bingo cards with single row, single column, and diagonal completion
For the first row/column/diagonal that you complete, you’ll receive 200 beans.
Tier 2: I, H, Z, N pattern completion
image shows examples of bingo cards with the patterns I, H, Z, a backward Z, N, a backward N.
For the first pattern that you complete, you’ll receive 500 beans. Please note that only a maximum of 3 books from the previous tier can count towards this tier.
Tier 3: Super Bingo
Image shows an example of a bingo card completely filled in.
Should you complete your entire card, you’ll receive 1000 beans and the Book Bingo Winner award.
Please send a Forum PM whenever you post in the Book Club for the activity to me, Prof. Tarma Amelia Black, or Prof. Sky Alton. In the post, please state the name of the book, the author, a link to the post, and for which category you are using the book. After you have completed a Tier, please send the card to one of us via Forum PM for verification.
For example:
The Joy Luck Club
Author: Amy Tan
Link: (post link)
Category: Author's first book
If you require a card in a different format for accessibility reasons, please let us know.
This contest will run from February 1st until the end of term. You may sign up anytime.
Good luck and let's get reading!
