October Newsletter!
~ ~ ~ We're a month into the new term of 2019-2020 ~ ~ ~

Each month we will post the current House Point standings. Since the term has just started, there are very few points which have been turned in and approved! You can check out the current standings here on the HOL Main Page.

House News
As Arianna wrote in September's newsletter, "As a reminder, every common room must be signed up for separately from the main HOL Forums. Each house has their own points system, but you can earn House Points by submitting to their newspapers! You can join every common room, though you will only have full access to your own house's forums."

Here are some of the things available in the different Houses in October --

Gryffindor
Gryfftoberfest is a big event happening with the Lions this October. All are invited to come play in this Renaissance-themed activity. Click here to access the forum and be sure to click to 'follow' it so you get notifications of new stuff as it comes in. They had a Motto Contest -- what motto will be used this year?
News flash! The Tournament Grounds is posted (with The Jousting Arena, Ring Toss, The Artist (Signatures) and The Archery Grounds)! I'm quite sure more will be posted for Gryfftoberfest soon ...

Slytherin
Slytherin will be gearing up for Slyth-o-ween! It is an Addams Family themed even that will be starting mid-October. Serpentimes is looking for contributions for their newspaper -- the theme for the next issue is Discovery. The deadline to send in submissions is 15th October. The Harry Potter Read-Along is coming along nicely -- they have started Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. Daily trivia and weekly questions are posed that you may befuddle your wits and earn some Scales .... The Arcade Club also is open to all -- and presents a Muggle Arcade game each month.

Ravenclaw
Ravenclaw continues with their debate questions and folks from all Houses are welcome to come give their opinions. You can find it here - Debate Club. For all you Eagles, be sure to check out the Ravenclaw-only Halloween activity that Alexander Brighton is running.

Hufflepuff
Visit the Games Tent -- aka DoHGaS (Huffle Department of Games and Sports) and see what new opportunities to earn Diamonds are there for you! Badgers -- Be sure to check out the Sett -- Huffleween is happening!

News From Around HOL

Check out the HOL Calendar. If you have questions about when Term begins and ends, when Quidditch starts or other items of general interest, that is a source of information to be aware of.

Book Club
Sky says "Coming soon, join the HOL Book Club as they spend the rest of the term exploring exactly what goes into making a fictional world feel so real you could step right through the page. From meals to maps, cultures to costumes, get ready for book suggestions, discussions and guides to creating your very own world - there are even awards up for grabs. Our Book Trivia is also worldly this month as we put your geographical knowledge to the test: can you tell the fictional places from the factual ones? Flash Fiction also continues a pace."

HOLLERS
As always, in each new month, we post 3 new puzzles in our Monthly Challenges. Check out the Creative Outlet section of the HOLLERS Forum, for both Writing Under Constraint and different options for you to be creative!

Remember too - you are welcome to participate and post in The Scrapbook. We've a place for you to put your HOL Memories! Click to read more.

HOL Departments

The Art Department has two different Projects (Back to School Supplies, Textbooks 101) going on - which both end October 2nd -- and the voting is open until the 16th. However, check it out regularly to see what new projects are presented!

The Library Department just opened up two projects - Haunting Headlines and After the Spell. You may also vote on the last two projects until the 14th.

Quidditch - Will writes: "The regular Quidditch season starts in November this year, as usual, [ click for 2019-2020 schedule ] but Pickups start much sooner... the first one will be on Wednesday, October 2 at 3 AM HOL! [ click for more information about Pickups. ] We will try to play at least two different types of games - and anyone is welcome regardless of their skill or experience on a broom!'"

So much is happening -- homework to do, all kinds of games to play in different Houses and points to earn.

Thank you Arianna, Kendra, Sky, Iverian and Will for the informations. :)
