Discussion Topic - October

Post by Prof. Rachel Selenia »

This is the class discussion for October, homework 2. It is worth 10 points.

The topic for October is Odin. What do you think about him? Did you research him after reading this month's lesson? What do you think of his search for wisdom?

I did do a bit of research on Odin after the lesson because for one of the extra credit assignments, I researched Valhalla. I think that his search for wisdom was a bit redundant - he sacrificed so much (his eye) and then he continued looking for wisdom. To be honest, I don't think he cared about what else he might have to sacrifice. Greed for wisdom, although it sounds like a noble venture, is still greed. Nonetheless, the correct term might be "hunger" for wisdom - that seems to have more of a positive connotation. I don't know what else to make of Odin other than the fact that he seems highly respected in Norse Mythology.
