October Prompt: Halloween

Post by Prof. Will Lestrange »

As we get deeper into fall, Halloween - a favourite festive day of the wizarding world - is almost at hand! Respond to this topic with at least 50 words about doing something for Halloween... but make sure that each word in your response contains at least one letter that can be found in the word "HALLOWEEN"! The deadline is October 31 at 11:59 PM HOL; completing this prompt will earn you 20 hoots. (Partial credit will be given in the form of 2 hoots for every 5 words up to 50.)

Remember: you still have until October 20 to complete the September prompt!

Halloween wonder fills the air as we float along through the days, plotting what to wear as the day grows near. Eventually, as always, black cloak, black cap and, of course, black boots complete the ensemble. Then, where to go ... to the neighbors house and surprise them with our magnificence? Or simply fly our brooms to the forest and party there? Why not both?

All Hallows’ Eve can be traced back to Samhain, an ancient Celtic festival that was celebrated to mark the end of the harvest. We plan to take a hayride to see a haunted house, carve a jack-o’-lantern, and bob for apples. Next we will disguise ourselves as witches, zombies and superheroes and march in the local parade. Lastly, we will join our masked and costumed neighbors knocking on doors and collecting candy, money and treats. (75 words)
